Kaya is a girl from Ashitaka's village. She calls him "Ani-sama" but is not a blood relative. She gives him an obsidian knife as a sign of her eternal love even though it is forbidden to talk to him once he's been cast out. She was outside of the village when the cursed boar god attacked. She, and two other girls ran, trying to make it inside. One of the girls fell,and Kaya produced a knife, standing over the girl to protect her, showing her bravery. (Ashitaka saved all three of the girls, and Kaya never actually fought the boar)
