Shoujou are legendary animals in China, who are said to have red fur, love to drink and look like orangutan. The Shoujou in Mononoke looke more like gorillas. They plant trees to replace the ones that are being chopped down by the humans at the iron mill, and therefore have a hatred of them. They throw rocks at San, and want to eat Ashitaka.
