Enoch Hilyard

Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Haught Hilyard

Descendants of Enoch on the mailing list:

Enoch Hilyard was born 9 Mar 1819, from the family Bible. He was the fourth son in the family. His marriage to Mary Jane Blosser took place on October 25, 1840 in Hocking County, Ohio. I believe Mary Jane was first married to a Gardner.

Enoch was a private in Company I, 90th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted at the age of 44 on 12 Dec 1863 for a term of three years, beginning 3 Feb 1864, but did not survive his term of service. He was with his company during its march through Georgia until June 25, when he was sent to the hospital in Chattanooga.  He died of diarrhea on 6 Jul 1864 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and is buried there.

It appears that Mary Jane lived out her days in Fairfield County from the census records, and I don't believe she remarried. She died 12 Dec 1915, and is buried in Grandview Cemetery in Fairfield County.
