James Wilson Hilyard (sometimes seen Wilson James Hilyard) was born 18 Oct 1823 from the family Bible record. He served in the Civil War in the OVI. He was reduced from a sergeant to private. He mustered in 21 August 1861, for a period of three years, but must have reenlisted because he mustered out 16 Jul 1865. This information is all in the "Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio..."
