Chris Achilleos was born in Cyprus 1947 where he led a reasonably happy life as a young boy. His family moved to England in 1960 after his father died. As a child in a foreign place, he had to struggle with learning the language and dealing with a new perhaps bizarre culture, but he adapted quickly. Living in England exposed him to things such as comic books and television which influenced his drawing subjects. He was at a disadvantage upon trying to get into art school as he didn't really have a portfolio of his work as most other students had acquired. He was accepted into Hornsey Art College based largely on the merit of his work and graduated with high honours in his specialization Scientific and Technical Illustration. He initially did some freelance work. He joined a company called Arts of Gold studio in 1972 as a general illustrator doing anything from photo retouching to lettering. This company was disbanded shortly after the tragic death of its owner. Chris Achilleos became and remains to this day a freelancer
