We're sailing. Yep, we went to a sailing school at Lake Kentucky in western Kentucky. The lake is about 2-3 miles wide and 50 miles long. The school, Lighthouse Landing, was very nice. We stayed in a newish cottage overlooking the marina.

The school is 4 days, spent mostly on the boat, but there was some classroom time too. And of course there were tests. Two written exams each were about 100+ questions each. We both passed, and now hold certificates for Basic Keelboat and Basic Coastal Cruising which qualifies us to charter a sailboat up to 30 feet long, with an auxilary motor and cruise coastal waters.

Tom and Vic aboard our training vessel, a Hunter 290. This boat is way cool. Standing headroom in the main salon. 2 cabins, Shower, etc.

View of the marina from our cottage deck. It was a grey overcast day. We drove in on a sunday, it rained most of the time sunday. We had a couple of overcast mornings, but most of the week was sunny and hot.

Tom is intensely manning the winch, watching the sails closely (the sails are located behind him) so he can adjust for the slightest wind change. And he still passed the course.

Vic takes the helm! We all took turns at each boat duty. The toughest duty was docking the boat back at the marina. Vic was perfect when she docked the boat. We were all jealous.

Vic turned out to be a natural Helmsman (Helmswoman). She claims she doesn't like to drive the boat. Yeah Right!

After sailing school graduation, we chartered a 23.5' Hunter, and went sailing for the day (Friday). There was very little breeze that day and very hot. Vic takes the tiller as Tom hoists the sails (and takes her picture).

Holly drove up from Nashville (about a 2 hour drive), where she is working at the Opryland Hotel for her baking and pastry externship. Finally out of kitchen she enjoys some sun. (sunscreen! sunscreen!).

We put up the bimimi (shading canope) because it was just too hot. Tom tries to find some wind. Eventually, we had to start the engine. But a good time was had by all.

Sunset from a cottage deck. This is an undiscovered paradise, so Shhh, don't tell anyone.

Copy of the front of the brochure. The top picture could have been taken from our cottage, except there are tree limbs now.
