Scale? What Scale?
photo

From left to right we have Swindle, Brawl, Frenzy, Barricade, and Bonecrusher.  None of which are scaled to each other (outside of Barricade and Frenzy that is).

Swindle turns out to be my favorite and he's not even in the movie, the video games, yes.  He has a good amount of articulation and an awesome pop-out chest cannon that doubles as a booster jet in car mode (which is pretty slick I might add).  He doesn't have much of a neck and can barely move his head, but Swindle is a good, solid Transformer worth picking up.

Brawl has a wonderful tank mode, just popping with weapons and a double turret.  Unfortunately, he's shorter than Barricade in vehicle mode and he doesn't hold together very well in robot mode.  His shoulders peg into the sides of his chest, but pop out if you breathe funny.  He does have good articulation and great light-piping.  There is talk of a larger scale Brawl coming out later on.  I just hope it's better than this version.

Bonecrusher is another that suffers from too-small syndrome.  He's a much bigger Decepticon than Barricade and, as the footage in the movie trailers have shown, Bonecrusher goes toe to toe with Optimus Prime at one point and looks to be about the same size.  Unlike Brawl, he holds together great and has wicked extendo-arms that will beat the crap out of any Autobot that gets in his way.  If his foot claws had a better range of movement, you could roll him on his wheels.

Finally, Barricade and Frenzy are a neat duo.  The car mode is spectacular and the transform easy enough.  Three things keep Barricade from being a great toy, however. 1.) No head movement.  Nothing.  It's due to the way he transforms, but just a swivel back and forth would have been nice.  2.) No waist articulation.  Same reason as above, but it would have been nice.  3.) His stupid action feature.  Pushing a button on his left arm extends his left hand forward in a snap.  It shoudl be a punch, but it comes across as more of a flopping action.

So to sum up.  Here's how I rate them in order of like the most to least:

1.) Swindle

2.) Bonecrusher

3.) Barricade

4.) Brawl

I think it's going to be a great year for Transformers.  At least Hasbro can manage to ship them out unlike their Star Wars 30th Anniversary collection.
