Transform and roll out... to a theater near you!
Since Monday night, I've seen the new Transformers movie three times. The last time I saw any movie more than that during opening week was back in 1999 when The Phantom Menace came out and I was starved for new Star Wars material. In hindsight, that was a major waste of money, but I digress.
Transformers puts the blockbuster back into summer movies. While I've liked the few movies I've seen so far this summer, Transformers is by far the best. Yeah, I know, I've been a fan since 1984, so I'm biased right? Wrong! Well, partly. For the past few series worth of toys and anime, they've reinvented the wheel over and over again. With horrible time solts for the shows on channels I don't get and a lack of characterization, I started to feel myself growing more and more distant from Optimus & Co.
What Transformers does is reinvent the wheel to the point where it won't need reinventing again. The cast is amazing, though there are a couple stinkers in the dialogue. The characterization is likewise amazing. Sam's parents are some of my favorite human characters in the movie. They, along with everyone else, were believable in their roles. And the Transformers themselves were nothing less than amazing, spectacular, fantastic, and incredible. This is how Transformers should look, move, and emote.
To those that think Micheal Bay & Friends raped your childhood (and especially those that threatened the man's life) I say grow the fuck up and move out of your parent's basement. If you can't accept that Transformers are all about change, then you're a fan of the wrong line of toys/cartoons/movies/comics/etc. and you're making the rest of us look bad.
Anyway, I'll probably go see this movie a few more times (in part to make up for 1999) because I catch something new with each viewing and it'll be a while before the DVD comes out. I give Transformers an 11 out of 10. Huzzah!
