The weather was overcast and threatening the entire time, but it never rained. It wasn't as terribly hot as it was earlier in the week. It seemed like a good omen for a good game. JV began the game very well, and the first few innings went quickly defensively, with only 1 person from Brook getting on base in the first 4 innings. Hitting-wise, Stephanie Gibson hit two very hard balls to center field, though they were unfortunately (and luckily) caught by the center fielder. After a while, however, Creek began to falter defensively. Heather Kicklighter, still recovering from her ankle injury, threw several wild balls to 1st base. Vickie Kreeger misjudged a high and short pop fly to left field. Stephanie Gibson struggled at 2nd base. And Brook continued to hit the ball well. Creek JV could not recover completely and the game ended with a score of 5-0, despite a comeback both defensively and offensively, with a Brook shutout for the last two innings and several people with good hits. With the last three games of the season looming, JV has hopes of winning the last few with a new thinking: Focus and have fun. Despite their new positions, Varsity held together very well, and for the first few innings managed to keep Brook scoreless. Renee Anderson pitched very well, but soon Brook began to figure her style and started hitting the ball harder. In the last few innings, Alex Austin stepped in too pitch. However, by that time, it was too late, and Varsity, unable to come up with some crucial hits, ended the game heart breakingly at 4-0. Krysta Atwood played a good game at the higher level, as did Kristen Gilbert at 1st base, a position slightly new to her. Clear Brook just proved themselves the victor at their home field. However, a valuable lesson was learned at the adaptability of the Varsity players, and perhaps this will instill more self-confidence in their abilities. On a side note, the Sophomore team defeated Deer Park at Home while we were away. Go Sophies!
Varsity also began their game very well. Renee Anderson was the starting pitcher. Due to the injuries of the past week, changes were made on the field. Tara Marsh moved from 3rd to shortstop, and Krysta Atwood of JV played 3rd for that game. Kristen Gilbert played 1st, Audrey Boriak played right field, and Lacy Howard moved from center to left and Kat Harrell from right to center.
