Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the House of Representatives (1)

(Can you ?) take the danger, can you stand the heat?
Will the honourable member for Blackstown (2) resume his fuckin' seat?
It's a Parliamentary process, whereto danger dwells.
A division that's required, ring the bells, ring the bells (3).

Proportional representation really boils my blood (4)
Rise up for the entrance of the usher with black rod (5)
"I warn the honourable member", the frantic Speaker (6) yells.
"I'll name the honourable member", ring the bells, ring the bells.

You can ring the bells, ring my bells, ring the bells, ring the bells (7).
Give me bi-cameral legislature
Don't give me no Proletarian dictator.

Questions without notice (8), are burning in my soul.
A double dissolution (9) leaves no time for rock 'n' roll.
"I'm a country member", Doug Anthony (10) did yell,
Yeah mate we remember, ring the bells, ring the bells.

You can ring the bells, ring my bells, ring the bells, ring the bells.
Give me bi-cameral legislature
Don't give me no Proletarian dictator.

Annotations

1. The House of Representatives is the lower house in Australia's two-house (bi-cameral) system of government.
2. Probably intended to be Blaxland NSW (since there's no such electorate as Blackstown), which was Paul Keating's (former Australian Prime Minister) seat until 1996.
3. When a division is required in the House, the bells are rung to advise all members to take their seats for a vote.
4. Proportional representation is a method of counting votes for elections in the Upper House. This was known to 'boil' the blood of Paul Keating who once, in a moment of typical restraint, described the Federal Senate as an 'unrepresentative swill' (to the predictable ire of the opposition and certain segments of the media).
5. The usher is a ceremonial role undertaken during the sitting of the Australian Parliament. The black rod carried by the usher is part of the ceremonial paraphernalia.
6. The Speaker oversees sittings of the House.
7. The lyrics and melody of the 'ring my bell' chorus are taken from Ring My Bell, a song originally recorded by Anita Ward in 1979.
8. 'Questions without notice' is a Parliamentary session where questions can be asked of members of the House without them having been given prior notice.
9. A double dissolution is the dissolution of both houses of Parliament, usually invoked when the Government of the day is unable to get legislation passed due to it being blocked in the Senate (Upper House). An election of both houses then follows.
10. Doug Anthony was the leader the Country Party, which is now called the National Party.
