Foods of Gor

Breads


Blackbread: made from Gorean grains, heavy and dark, baked soft and full, can be served with clotted bosk cream and/or honey.

Sa-tarna Bread: wheatlike bread made from Sa-Tarna grain, round, flat, yellow in color.

Fruits

Kort: a rinded fruit of the Tahari, can be served sliced with melted cheese and nutmeg.

Larma:
succulent fruit, like an peach. Can be sliced, fried, and served with browned honey sauce.

Ram Berries: small, succulent, purple berries.

Red Fruit:
similar to an urthen apple.

Tospit: a small, tart, bitter, juicy citrus, common tospit contains an odd number of seeds, long-stemmed, usually an even number of seeds, used in both throwing games of skill with the knife and as food.

Dates: these come from the City of Tor.

Meats

Sa-Tassna: term for meat in general

Bosk:
Similar to beef. Can be prepared to your specifications, savory steaks, broiled, roasted, or dried.

Tabuk: Similar to venison, this meat has a wild, gamy flavor. Enjoy it as a steak or in haunches. It can be roasted, smoked, grilled or stewed.

Tarsk: Similar to ham, slightly sweet in flavor, can be sliced and fried as bacon, or grilled as steak.

Verr: Similar to lamb. Very gammy. Can be served stewed or roasted.

Poultry

Vulo: Tastes like chicken, the bird is the size of a pigeon. Can be served broiled, grilled, smoked or stewed.

Tumits: Larger birds, tougher meat. Can be served baked, roasted or dried.

Seafood

Cosian Wingfish: A redfish that tastes like salmon. Served smoked.

Assorted Salt Thassa Fish:
Whatever is in season and has been caught fresh daily by fishermen.

Thassa Lobster: Steamed live and served in the shell with melted bosk butter.

Tamber Gulf Oysters: Large, fresh, can be served raw and delicious!

Sorp: a shellfish, common in Vosk river, similar to an oyster

Vegetables

Sul: golden brown and starchy. Tuberous root of the Sul Plant (not unlike the potato on Urth). Can be distilled in to the drink called paga.

Red Olives: These come from the groves of Tyros. These are commonly from the City of Tor, referred to as Torian Olives.

*Rence: A water plant, the grain is eaten, the stems harvested and pressed into paper or woven into cloth. The grain may be boiled, or ground into a paste and sweetened. This paste can also be fried into a type of pancake.

Kes: a shrub whose salty, blue, secondary roots are a main ingrediant in sullage.

Other Foods

Vulo eggs: Tiny eggs from the vulo, served boiled, poached or fried in tarsk fat. *Twelve eggs serve one hungry warrior.

Sugar: 2 varities are commonly used, the White Sugar and the Yellow sugar.


Cheese: Pressed from the milk of the Bosk..they are sharp in taste and travel well...resisting molds in thier hard rinds.

Butter: Churned from the milk of the Bosk or the Verr.

Slave Porridge/Bond-Maid Gruel: cold, unsweetened mixture of water and sa-tarna meal, on which slaves are fed, called "bond maid gruel" in Torvaldsland, often mixed with chopped parsit.

Sullage: soup made mainly from suls, turpah, and kes, and anything else handy.

Sa-Tarna: grain, specifically wheat.
