Pot of Tea Herbs

Needed: 21 inch ceramic pickle pot
packing peanuts
potting soil
compost
balanced organic fertilizer
garden cart
fine bark mulch

Start with single layer of packing peanuts. Using cart mix 3 parts potting soil with 1 part compost. Add balanced fertilizer. Fill pot with soil.

1 German Chamomile to be planted in center along back rim, leaving room on sides to grow and fill in. This plant offers apple-scented lacy foliage and daisy like flower that when dried make a strong, but smoothing tea.

1 Rosemary, on the right of the chamomile. With a growth of 48 to 72 inches high and a 18- 24 inch spread. An attractive, evergreen perennial, its grey/green, needle shaped foliage can be pruned to form a low hedge. An attractive addition to any garden. In cooler climates, protect from winter winds. Likes sandy, alkaline soil and full sun.
Propagate by cuttings or by seed in spring or by layering.
Uses fresh or frozen leaves-fish lamb, potatoes, soups, tomatoes, pork, poultry, cheeses, eggs, breads, fruit salads, jellies; dried leaves-facials, hair rinses, sachets, potpourris, lotions, toilette water, fresh and dried branches-baths.
Preservation; pick rosemary fresh as desired. Hang-dry or freeze the active young 3-4 inch growth tips.

1 Feverfew planted in front left side, again leaving room to spread. This plant shows off beautiful daisy like flowers and lacy line green leaves. A short lived perennial, grown as an annual. Leaves are aromatic and flowers bloom in summer and early autumn.
Used in teas and to smooth migraine headaches.

1 Grapefruit mint, planted on left side of chamomile, has classic mint foliage with a clean tangy scent that is a cross between mint and citrus. A perennial, plants can be invasive and should be used with caution.
Fully to frost hardy. Grow in sun or shade in well drained soil.
Propagate by division in spring or autumn.
Makes a refreshing fruity tea.

1 Lemon Balm, plant along right rim, leaving room to spread so that it can cascade over the side. A prolific grower, resembles it's mint relatives with dark green, heart shaped foliage as tasty as it is aromatic.
Uses: lemony leaves in iced drinks, hot teas, fruit dishes, desserts or even indoor bouquets.
Trim to keep in check.
