Japanese Style Garden



This garden is very simple, perfect to be planted around a quiet pond, water fall area of for a quiet little hideaway area.

Japanese Maple with its deeply lobed, burgundy or green leaves with small red-purple flowers in spring and brillant orange, red or yellow foliage in autumn. With a height and spread of 20 feet this tree makes an excellent accent piece at the back of the garden.

Mountian Laurel is a dense, bushy shrub with glossy, evergreen leaves. In late spring this shrub blooms with beautiful clusters of red, pink, white or bicolored flowers. Height and spread 10 feet. Needs semi-shade and well drained soil. Zones 5-9.

Japanese Skrmmia is a dark green evergreen shrub with very fragrant leaves. White flower, followed by red berries grow on female plants. You will need to grow both male and female plants to produce fruit. Height and spread 5 ft. Likes fertile, well drained soil and sunny locations.

Common Poly Fern is a evergreen fern with medium, green, deeply divided fronds, spreads by creeping. Zones 5-8.

Japanese Flowering Cherry: These lovely trees reach around 25 feet tall with pink or white flowers atop dark green leaves. Make this great spring focal point in your garden.

Japanese white pine is a perfect tall tree for the back of this garden growing up to 50 feet tall. Slow growing, comical, or spreading conifer with, bluish foliage and purplish, brown bark. Leaves are held in fives. Bears ovoid cones, 2 to 4 inches long, ( 5 - 10 cm ). Needs sun and moist soil. Zones 6-9.

Japanese Iris: this delicate flower has blue, white or purple flowers in late spring and reaches a height of 2 1/2 feet. Zones 4-9.
