CHAPTER PROJECTS
The Vidalia Chapter places special emphasis on the promotion of our American History Essay Contest. The Chapter encourages participation by students from every public and private school in Toombs, Treutlen, and Montgomery Counties. Each year, parents, teachers, and school administrators are invited to attend a ceremony recognizing the winning student essay writers.
SPECIAL AWARDS
The Vidalia Chapter was pleased to present the DAR Medal of Honor to Rebecca Smelser in March of 2007. This worthy recipient has made outstanding contributions to the community and beyond through her excellent ability in piano and voice. At the same meeting the Community Service Award was presented to Dr. Fred Brogdon for his work with the Altamaha Heritage Center.
A special National award, the Mary Desha Award for Youth, was presented to Lindsay Wiggins, a student at Toombs Central School. When Lindsay was in the fourth grade she led members of her Bible Club, a non-school organization, in the successful effort to collect and present baby dolls to residents of local nursing homes. Lindsay's unselfish service to others was particularly poignant because of her personal loss, the death of her father earlier that year.
It is a distinct privilege as a chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution to honor those whose contributions help others.
