WORD FOR WORD
*************
"I would say that the film that made me want to get into
this was "The Jungle Book." I saw that when I was 5 years
old, and I remember my mom loving it, and it sort of
cemented my relationship with drawing for film." --Kevin
Lima, director of Disney's "Tarzan."

NEW RELEASES FOR SALE
*********************
"Madeline: Lost in Paris" (G)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000IBKK/entertainmentsit
Change is bad. Last year's ho-hum live-action film of
Madeline can now be forgotten. This 75-minute animated
feature is a bright new adventure for Ludwig Bemelmans's
French heroine made by the same folks who have created
Madeline shorts over the years. With a spirit, look, and
tone faithful to the original tales, "Madeline: Lost in
Paris"--the first "Madeline" video released by Disney--is a
keeper.

"Famous Fred" (NR)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0738920479/entertainmentsit
The Doors of Wonder series (now with four videos including
"The Rainbow Fish") has a great addition with the spry 30-
minute short from England. We learn of a beloved, lazy cat
who was actually a rock & roll star in the cat world. This
1997 short was nominated for an Oscar.

"Return to Oz" (PG)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000JMQC/entertainmentsit
A bit too intense for young viewers, this 1985 sequel to the
classic "Oz" has plenty of fans. Young Fairuza Balk is
wonderful as Dorothy, who returns to Kansas in a daze. The
film's brilliant design work can be traced to director
Walter Murch and--get this--it's the only film the three-
time Oscar-winning editor and sound man ever directed. Based
on L. Frank Baum's novels "Ozma of Oz" and "The Land of Oz."

"Return to Oz" is also available in widescreen format.

"Sailor Moon R" (NR)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000JDIL/entertainmentsit
Alongside "Pokemon," this action series--made with girls in
mind--is another popular import that has played in a
slightly edited version on cable over the years. Ages 7 and
up are best for this 60-minute feature, especially since
it's only available in a subtitled edition (look for the
dubbed version next year). Although it's fresher and more
inventive than its peers, parents need to know the action is
a bit more intense than much cartoon superhero fare, there's
some spooky imagery, and ghostly, naked figures are seen
(think Barbie doll).

life on the printed page, Ludwig Bemelmans's intrepid young
heroine appears in more than a dozen short videos and now
has a new feature-length animated tale, "Lost in Paris."
Amazon.com contributor Kimberly Heinrichs explores the
world of Madeline on video.
