Eric's Log Book- Mars

First Observation- July 17th, 2003. 4:30 A.M. Using NG-60 60mm telescope by Meade.

Well... I finally saw Mars! It is the closest to the Earth since 50,000 years! It is now about 35,000 million miles away, usually being 60-70 million miles away. The Moon's brightness had lots of affect on Mars. It looked like a bright orange dot. No matter what magnification I had it at, no visible features were present. The moon that night was in the gibbous stage, going to a new moon. Also on the night I viewed a bright star looking to be blue from the ground. It was just another normal looking star though. Hope to get more tommorow morning.

Second Observation- July 18th, 2003. 4:30 A.M. Looked out window. FAILURE

Clouds prevented me from seeing anything last night.... a very big dissapointment.
