Abstract:
Chemistry is an abstract science. So, in teaching it we need supporting
equipments such as a model and a laboratory. In the laboratory, an abstract
basic concept can be connected with the empirical fact (chemical substance) by
directly participating in the learning process. This treatment implies that an
abstract concept can be manifested as an observable fact; it can be seen,
touched, and measured. The laboratory experience such as a practice or
experiment can be regarded as a very important learning and teaching process.
Therefore, performance and competence can be evaluated as quantitative feedback.
Teaching and learning organic chemistry will be successful if it is supported by
students’, assistants’, lecturers’, and laboratory personnel’ commitment and
participation.
