ELITE TANDINGAN DAN GERAKAN MASSA DI KALIMANTAN TENGGARA BAGIAN SELATAN
PADA ABAD XIX Abstract: In the critical study on Banjar War
in 19th century, it seemed that the war was begun by the mass
movement led by the counter elites living very far from the capital of kingdom.
These counter elites together with the peasants sat in the same place to discuss
the religious matters. Through this way, they were able to identify themselves
as the peasants and enabled to control and mobilized the mass of peasants. They
knew that the colony had made the traditional values distorted. They realized
that the situation had to be recovered and expected to rebuild the establishment
in the past through a radical movement. The romantic revolutionary expectation
of the counter elites can be said to be cultural rather than political one.
From the result of historical study, it can be said that religious-cultural and
social structure background and distortion of traditional values caused by
colonial expansion in the fields of politics, economy, socio-culture caused
counter elites and their mass to launch radical movement in the South part of
Southeast Kalimantan in 19th century.
