MULTILINGUALISMEDALAM KARYA SASTRA INDONESIA

Abstract: Multilingualism is usually discussed in relation to the use of language in the real speech community whose members have mastery of two or more languages. But, in this article the writer tries to apply it in Indonesian literary work. In this discussion, the story characters are regarded as the real humans who use languages they have mastered to communicate and interact between one and another. Having discussed multilingualism phenomena in Indonesian literary work, Burung-Burung Manyar, the writer comes to conclusion that the use of more than one language in the literary work is much influenced by socio-cultural aspects.
