HUBUNGAN RAKAI PIKATAN – PRAMODAWARDHANI TOKOH SEJARAH ABAD IX DI JAWA TENGAH Soenarto Abstract: According to the epigraphy of Canggal of 732 AD, the (ancient) Mataram Kingdom of Sanjaya’s dynasty had been established in Central Java. In the late of ninth century Sanjaya succeeded to awaken new force, and this force was able to set the Sanjaya’s power aside. Based on the short inspirations in Plaosan Lor temple, i.e. the inscription of Sryi Kahulunan (842 AD), of Ratu Boko (856 AD), and of Versed Ancient Java, J.G de Casparis concludes that political intermarriage had been executed between Rake Pikatan of Sanjayas and Pramodawardhani of Syailendras. In one side, this intermarriage also marked the resurgence of the Sanjaya’s power; and in the other side, it showed the end of the Syailendra’s power in Central Java. This also resulted in the high religious tolerance between Hindu Syaiwa and Budha Mahayana religion.
