SARANA RETORIKA Dharmojo Abstract: Munaba is mourning for the dead in the form of poems related to myths, history of decsendantas, and legends consisting of tens, even hundreds of verses. The topic of munaba is related to secred matters. Munaba as a song is mostly conducted in traditional or dance parties at a culmination of the ceremony for death. Viewed from its content, munaba always deals with personal problems, other human-beings, mysterious nature or God. From the aspect of its rhetorical device, munaba shows the binabawa’s expertise in processing diction, imagination and rhetorical means to reach effectiveness of communication. Munaba as a part of the field of art of this archipelago using various rhetoric device should be discovered. The discovery, understanding, and dissemination of various rhetorical device of the munaba may give many advantages from various interests or perpectives.
