KEN AROK SEBAGAI TOKOH SEJARAH Soenarto Abstract: the main sources used to know the historical development of Singasari Kongdom are the books of Pararaton and Negarakretagama. They are literary works. Thus, to use them as historical sources, one needs a certain approach or interpretation method that is suitable to the culture and belief of their society at the time. In the two books, Ken Arok was aa a historical figure and the founding father of Singasari Kindom. He was not a mythological or a fairytale character as noted by CC.Berg. According to Negarakretagama stanzas (pupuh) 36-37 and 40-49, Ken Arok was the preredecessor of Rajasa’s dynasty that leads Singasari dan Majapahit Kingdoms.
