KOSA KATA WARISAN, INOVASI, DAN PINJAMAN

DALAM BAHASA BANJAR

Rustam Effendi

Abstrak: This research is meant to reinvestigate the status and relationships of the Banjarese with the other languages, especially the Malayan languages in Sumatera and Javanese language. It is aimed at:  (a) tracing back the original vocabulary of the Banjarese language which are either inherited or arbitrarily accepted by the Banjarese society, and (b) tracing back the borrowed vocabulary. The research used descriptive and comparative methods. The instrument used for collecting the data is the selected swadesh word list. From the findings it is concluded that the Banjarese language is not a descendance or dialect of the Malay language of Sumatera or Javanese. The similar vocabulary among the three languages is caused by the fact that they come from the same source, the Ancient Austronesian.  Another finding is the justification to  J.J. Ras’s suspicion that the elements of the ancient languages which have extinct in the other area of Malay are still preserved and used in the Banjarese language. The elements of the ancient language which are still used in the Banjarese language, but  not used in the other Malay languages anymore, such as */bintiŋ/ ‘pegang’ means ‘to take hold’, */bintih/ ‘sepak’ means ‘to kick’, */ugah/, */rawa/.
