Abstract: This study is meant  to prove that aerobic and anaerobic exercises can influence bone density based on bone mineral density  (Sonic 1200). Thirty white rats (Rattus norvegicus of Wistar strain) are used for this study. They are randomly selected from their population and allocated for a randomized posttest  group design only. They are males, 3 months of age, and 190-210 grams. They are  divided into three 10  groups  by ordinal pairing method, which are randomly allocated for aerobic swimming exercise (13 minutes), anaerobic swimming exercise (1 minute  exercise plus 3 minutes relaxation, for 4 sets), and control. Exercises are conducted in  3 times a week for 8 weeks. Data are  processed statistically and presented descriptively with variance analysis and LSD. The result shows that the Mean’s ± SD’s of BMD’s of aerobic, anaerobic exercise and control are 1510 ± 9, 1492 ± 12 m/sec respectively. BMD of aerobic exercise is higher than the control group (p<0.01). BMD of anaerobic exercise is also higher than the control group (p<0.01). BMD of aerobic exercise is higher than the anaerobic one  (p,0.01).

Key words:
aerobic swimming exercise, anaerobic swimming exercise, BMD.
