IN INDONESIA: IMPLICATION OF EDUCATIONAL REFORM

Surya Sili

Abstract: This paper aims at developing blueprint of English education standards both for the students and the program of teacher education. This timely topic merits serious discussion among teacher educators, English teachers and English curriculum designers. It is urgent that standards for English learning as well as English teacher education are required to set. Failure to address this strategic issue will undoubtedly put Indonesian students at the disadvantageous position in the near future. This concern is even more relevant at the time when educational autonomy-as the logical consequence of regional autonomy-might be imprecisely interpreted by local officials at the provincial level. By having the standards, English teachers serving at classroom levels and teacher educators at teacher training and education institutions (IKIP, FKIP, STKIP, etc.) will have guidance in their efforts to ensure quality educational experiences for their students

Key Words:  ELTS, Educational Reform, Teacher Education Program.
