 Another Military Wide Angle Tessar A Tessar lens with military engravings that came as a surprise with an Exa Rheinmetall. Valentin Sama, Madrid 22 Jan 1999  I am aware that this is not the first Tessar lens for Exakta with military engravings that is known, as different ones are dully reported, but some authors have asked me to write something about it and post some pictures.  This lens came with an Exa Rheinmetall, bought in a Cornwall auction (Germany), sending my bid by fax. I believe it is very important to report that the lens, and his speciall military caracter was never advertised or reported, either in the catalogue or in any documentation. It came as a surprise, when I inspected the camera. The price of the item (camera and lens) was quite normal, on the cheap side. I believe this is not a fake.  As you can see, it is a Carl  Zeiss Jena Nr. 2658809 Tessar 40 mm f/4,5
non coated lens, in quite good condition. It is interssting to observe
that this lens closes to f/32, quite a small aperture for a short focal
lens. The red dot taht suggest an infrared focusing mark is way to the
left, very near the f/11 marking in the depth of field scale.
You can see the engravings that state:
M MF 642 and the military engraving.  On the back of the lens you can read the numbers 658809, that correspond with the last figures of the main serial number, as was customary with this kind of lens. On the photographs, you can see the lens mounted on the Exa Rheimetall it came with, and different view of the lens, his engravings and parts. 2658809 Valentine Sama's lens, 2658844 the other one, they are in the same batch. |
