OK, first things first.. Why am I typing instead of writing? Well, I guess its because I type faster than I write + I am able to cut and paste some text which will save me time. You see, I have written something like that before, about my family. It was an email to someone. OK, here it is.. a short description of my family (I'm a Christian, by the way):
"Now that you have introduced yourself, I guess it is my turn, to introduce myself. My dad was in the Boys' Brigade and THAT was how he got to know the Lord. We came from a humble background. My parents lived in a rented 1-room 'house' when they first got married. As my dad continued to work and trust God for providence, he found better jobs (though he only had an 'O' level certificate) and now, we live in a nice terrace house in Jalan Peminpin (near Bishan). ×
My eldest brother is called Kelvin. He is now studying in the States in Oral Roberts University. My second brother is called Melvin. I was very close to him when we were young, and followed him in many ways. I joined the Boys' Brigade because he did. Miraculously when my brother joined the UYO, he did not know that my dad was also in the BB in the past. (My dad was the first band major in the BB in Telokanson {sp?}, Malaysia). Mel served in the BB from Primary 3 till even when he left Secondary School. I only joined when I was in Sec 1 and retired as a Senior in March this year. Kelvin is 25 this year, Melvin, 22, me 18 and Jeeann, 17.
Jeeann is my younger sister, she tried many ECAs in Sec School. She joined swimming, choir, photographic society, was the president of the music society, and was a prefect in MGS. Melvin was the president of the rock climbing club when he was in Singapore Polytechnic. He took part in quite a few rock-climbing competitions and was part of the committee in certain occasions. He also wrote a few screen-plays which turned out rather successful dramas while he was in Poly. In army, he was voted the Best Recruit in his company. He was also the champion in a light-weight boxing competition he took part in. He is an athlete (runner) and an artist, majors mainly in graphic designing. I am more of a musician though I never studied MEP and quit my piano lessons in Primary 5 after failing my grade 4 practical exam.
I believe God is the one who has so graciously bestowed all these gifts on my family members. It is very true that the weak shall be strong. When we realise how weak we are without God and when we depend on Him for our strength and guidance, He not only upholds us, but blesses us as well. I can play the trumpet (though not very good), which was the instrument I played when I was in the BBBBB (Boys' Brigade Brass and Bagpipe Band). I can play a bit of the flute, but I'm unable to reach the higher notes. I can play the piano by ear and by reading notes (~grade 4 standard), the guitar (played for ACCF) and drum set (slightly only lah). I did NOT take lessons, except for classical piano playing. As a result I guess I have become quite proud. Yet, I am constantly reminding myself NOT to be a comfortable Christian but one that continues to seek to Grow In Christ."
* note that the text was written last year, and has been modified slightly (some text removed×).
OK, what else can I add to this essay? Well, I was from Bravo BMTC 2 and Delta during my BSLC in SISPEC. I don't really like the army, because of the lack of freedom it 'gives'. I have been on course since the beginning of my army life and get to go home only on Saturdays. I really miss my civilian life which is now a thing of the past. I was from ACPS, ACSS, and ACJC. I studied Physics, F maths and C maths in College. I've applied for Computer Engineering in NTU and have gotten a place. I am not a very sporty person. Besides badminton, I don't really play anything else (As such, I'm not too physically fit either[Oh I cycle too!]). I like lazing around with friends or even alone, and taking it easy. I like travelling and sightseeing, especially with my family and on conducted tours with lots of other people. Camps are another thing that I truely enjoy, simply because they are so memorable. In 12th Coy (BB), there were Band camps, LTC (Leadership Training Camps), Coy camps. Church camps were also so rubic. Boy, those were the days. Believe it or not, by nature, I'm a quiet person. Also, I've got quite a problem with public speaking and often get tongue tied. I dislike confusion and helplessness. I frittering time and s. Let's see, what else...? Oh, I like pets. I used to have a chicken, a cat, fishes, hamsters, seahorses. Now I still have an aviary with birds and my dog is still alive (12 years old)... I like bringing my dog for walks in the evening. I relish scenic places, and once took up photography. I also enjoy using the computer to play games (not as much anymore), to check emails, to type stuff and to talk on ICQ. I like listening to piano concertos and Christian music (I had some memorable moments with my family going for SSO concerts, when I was younger, too!). I enjoy flipping through newspapers, reading useful books.. ie. mostly non-fiction (me is a practical person). During my free times, I take pleasure in going for movies, whether alone or with friends & family. I like maths, I like ACJC & ACS. and I can go on and on, typing is just so much easier than writing. But I better end.. since this page is ending. So this is it. Finished. - 21st June 1998
