So it was back to Oz for Christmas and New Year's for a few weeks. We took a week off to explore Broome up in the Kimberly region.

..and found out that the place is infested with crocodiles and other assorted nasties. A couple of days camping in the midst of all it all helped us overcome our collective fear of death and introduced a few interesting parasites into our digestive systems. The Australian bush can be pretty spectacular though, in spite of the incredible danger.

A quick dip in freshwater crocodile infested water really means a QUICK dip. Freshwater crocs are said to be harmless compared to their saltwater friends but it does take a lot of faith in this description to swim with them. The next morning there were about 20 crocs visible in this pool of water.

A flat tyre was spotted early on by Jason, which probably saved us from a survival situation, which of course would mean eating Nick.

The 4 wheel drive had surprising pickup in the Coles carpark.

The heat in the tropical north of Western Australia can really knock you out. The locals detest people who whinge about the heat, unlike some cultures who love to discuss the weather, so it's best to keep your trap shut and drink lots of water.

Some aboriginal children go out spearfishing at high tide. The mud flats in Roebuck Bay move amazingly quickly flooding large mud flats in minutes.

We had a tent but it was a nightmare to erect due to missing bits and pieces and in any case was too hot to sleep in so we took our chances with the poisonous things out on the ground.

I woke up with a couple of these beauties trying to get up my shorts.
