let's make a heel

"Let's Make A Heel"

June 6, 1999
O.K.  The heel has been rough cut.  Now I clamp it to the workbench and get out the chisel and rasp/file.
The shoulders of the heel are subtley extended.
After a bit of chiseling, rasping and filing the heel takes shape.  The pink stuff is paper that has the pattern for the shape of the end of the heel.
Now the heel is pretty much in its final shape, I sand it to make sure that all the lines flow smoothly.
The heel after the neck is attached to the body of the guitar.  Notice how the shadows on the contours of the heel are smooth.
The heel cap can be fit many ways.  Here is one.  It uses the same piece of wood as the back of the guitar, extending the grain pattern.
You heel!
