Sailing the Pamlico

Location
The Pamlico Sound is located in eastern North Carolina. It lies between the Pamlico River and the islands of the outer banks near Cape Hatteras.
The town of Washington is about 35 miles upriver from the sound, where the Pamlico River narrows to become the Tar River.

Sailing the Pamlico
The Pamlico River is 1-3 miles wide and well-suited to sailing. Because of its width, many weekend-sailors enjoy simply sailing back and forth across the river on a broad reach. As there are no bridges across the Pamlico, it is possible to sail from the sound all the way up river to Washington.
