I need to know the name of the album and the song he performed with on 'Saturday night live'. Sometimes they do two songs, I can't remember. It was quite awhile ago. I never would of cared or compositional/orchesteral styles of music if it wasn't for hearing this on that Saturday night. I must of been 12 years old. I think Linda Ronstadt is in the forte or somebody just like her? Singing...ah..ah..ah. No words,I think, just high ah's. I gue s. You know what I mean? It had a profound effect on me. I remember laying there on the couch half asleep and not really watching the t.v. and WHAM! that music. I now have a small collection of P.G. I almost saw him play in Vancouver on the 3rd of march/97 at the Vogue theatre but missed it. I would really appreciate it if you could tell me of any other cd's that sound like Glasspiece#1(rubric")On the Glasspieces(Choreographed by jerome Robbins) album I love it. I hope you agree with me. Lovely blue sky, by the way. You're survey doesn't include the "under 18" element. I, myself, am a ripe young 16 year old. I ould not fill out the survey anyway, as I am quite a novice. I saw P.G. in concert Tuesday and found it to a quite transfiguring experience. What stood out most was the first set of 10 piano etudes he played (he says he's working on another set). The s und of the piano was very lovely--fluid, panoramic. Sigh (wistfull, dreamy)... What really impressed me was how my sense of time was suspended. Other people later said the etudes lasted 40 minutes. What jerk would look at their watch? I closed my eyes for nearly the entire concert and invented some interesting contraptions and choreography in the process. The most bizarre image that sticks out is that of a bird--fat, squat and highly ornamented in crimson and indigo--swallowing small, white gooey orbs The bird's throat became a woman's throat, and the bird alighted from the woman's mouth. And then each of the little spheres rolled down, swelling as they went, to form the iridescent, pulsing, vertebrae of this woman's spine. Just weird. I was arres ed by Mr.Glass' soft-spoken demeanor, and I was rather impressed that at the age of 63 his hair is still brown. Maybe he should be in a boy band. PS. I think it would be interesting also to put a gender question on the survey. |

I first heard it on a telelvision show(not sure which one) and then a movie. The movie was "Babe:Pig In the City"(when she first arrived at the "animal" hotel). I asked a music teacher and he said he knew the exa t song I was talking about. He played the basic tune on the piano for me and told me it was called "Islands" by Philip Glass with the Glass Symphony. I cannot find this piece anywhere. It is a very eerie and strange piece which really got me. If anybody c n help me please do--blair@ucky.com By the way the site is Great! |

I laughed out loud. especially with the "that should be great" (re:Cocteau) I once encountered him on the R train in NYC. I was so bloody thrilled, but I tried to keep my coo . When he stood up to leave, I asked him: "Excuse me, are you Philip Glass?" He replied yes and I said, Sitting down: " I just want to say that I've seen Koyaanisqatsi 12 times, I have a lot of your music and I want to say thank you. He smiled at me, sai thank you and left the train. I was in no way embarassed by the fact that a bunch of people watched this encounter and I felt so privileged and thankful that I had the opportunity to personally thank this great man.
