Other Pairskating Moves
Besides lifts, jumps, and spins, pairs will have to demonstrate their flexibility and their creativity. One dramatic move is the death spiral. Otherwise pairs may perform moves like spread eagles, spirals or edges. The combination of these elements are up to the pairs creativity. [refer to singles skating - other freeskating moves for list of the moves]
The
death spiral however has a fixed position. This move requires the man to
do a pivot holding the lady who will be skating around him on an edge.
The lady will then lower her body until it is almost parallel to the ice
and her head almost grazing the ice.
Death spirals are named after the edge the lady skates on. There are thus
four different death spirals, ie. the Backward Outside death spirals, Backward
Insidedeath spirals, Forward Outside death spirals and Forward Inside death
spirals, with the Forward Outside as the most difficult to be performed.
The death spiral is one of my favourites in pairs.
