Dennis E. Carpenter -- VITA

Mr. Dennis E. Carpenter earned the B.M. degree in Music Education from Grove City College in 1981. He was employed as a long term substitute as well as a day-to-day substitute in several school districts for three years following graduation. In 1984 he accepted the position of chorus director/general music instructor in the Williamsburg Community School District, Williamsburg, PA. In 1987 he accepted a voluntary transfer of teaching assignment to band director/instrumental music instructor. He completed the Master of Music Education degree at The Pennsylvania State University in 1988. While attending P.S.U. Mr. Carpenter studied trombone with Mr. Mark Lusk, formerly of the Chicago Symphony. In 1989 Mr. Carpenter made a career move to the Montoursville Area School District, where he is currently director of bands/instrumental music instructor.

During Mr. Carpenter's five year's on the faculty of the Williamsburg Community School District his duties have included senior high and elementary bands and choruses; general music instructor, (K-8); and instrumental music instructor, (4-12). During the last two years, his band duties have included writing halftime and competition shows and conducting the concert band. He taught instrumental lessons to grades four through twelve and conducted an elementary band which includes grades four through seven. In addition to his band duties he taught a music elective entitled, "The Performing Arts".

Mr. Carpenter is presently in his tenth year as instrumental music instructor/director of bands at Montoursville Area High School, Montoursville, PA. His duties include directing the marching, concert, and jazz bands at the High School as well as teaching instrumental lessons, music theory/composition and history. Mr. Carpenter also co-directs the High School Musicals and is responsible for the sound and lighting systems in the auditorium.

Mr. Carpenter has held professional memberships in the Music Educators National Conference, the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, the American Choral Directors Association, Phi Beta Mu International Band Master's Association, and the National Band Association. Mr. Carpenter has served as president of the Lycoming County Band Directors Association. Mr. Carpenter also remains active playing the trombone in several community and professional performing ensembles in the area.
