Mary's Fibroids and Her Story

I suffered from heavy, clotty periods for close to a year before I finally saw my doctor ( whom I saw every year for my regular exam). He did an ultrasound, then told me my only option was a hysterectomy, diagnosing me with 2 small fibroids, the largest being under 1 1/2 inches. After the shock wore off, I started doing some research and I found out that a hysterectomy was NOT my only option. I sought a second opinion about 1 month later, where the doctor told me that I did not have 2 small fibroids, but one large baseball size fiboid, and offered me 4 options, one being an abdominal myomectomy. I had surgery on March 8, 2000, which went extremely smoothly, as did my recovery. The best part of all is that my periods are back to normal!! The photo shows my one fibroid, which he had to "cut up", as it was bigger than my incision.
