Marco and Mina.
Following his wife's death in 1920, Elgar acquired a number of dogs. He had three: Marco (a spaniel) and Mina and Meg (Cairn Terriers). He was particularly fond of them and even cancelled an engagement in London when Marco was ill.
"He is now the only thing left in the world to me - and he's ill and looking for me everywhere" he told a friend.
