I went to see Dougie MaClean in concert and have been a big fan ever since.
He's played around the world, just got through with a sellout tour near DC, but in
our tiny theater he gave us the best 2 hours to which I've ever had the pleasure to
listening. Between songs he told funny stories and joked. He also put forth ideas
with astonishing insight.
Dougie has a peculiar way of keeping time, with his foot he taps in front of him
and behind. Dougie encourages people to sing along with the choruses to his songs, so the foot comes in handy. In his heavy Scottish accent, he mockingly points to his leg and says, like an
exhausted choir director, "Watch the foot! The foot is the key!" At one point, the spotlight glinting off his guitar tossed back and forth on the wall
like a glowing poultergeist. This made everybody laugh. ("I was thinking, 'what is that?' I thought it was a spider,"
he remarked with a twinkle later.)
Thsi picture is from his "Riof" cover. He looks different on all his
albums, because he's been at it so long. (On Craigie Dhu he looks to be about
15!)
