The Baseball Pitcher
The Baseball Pitcher

He looks so powerful, so mighty,
Standing on the pitcher's mound,
The face known by everyone
For miles and miles around.

But inside, he's sort of shy,
Though he'd never let you know,
He thinks athletes should be brave,
And not let nervousness show.

The batters are scared of him,
For his pitches are like fire,
But what irritates them most
Is that he never seems to tire.

They don't know that he shakes like an earthquake
When he faces another team,
Or that being brave, like an eagle
Is one of his only dreams.

The crowd thinks he does only one thing,
And baseball is his life,
But he lives like anyone else,
At home with his kids and wife.

The real person inside him
Almost no one knows,
For his fast, strong pitch
Is all that he will show.
