What's within

if you could look into my mind and see
all the things that make me me
what would you do and what would you say?
would it shock you to realize that I'm this way?
would you laugh at my dreams and throw them in my face,
not taking time for second thoughts in your wild haste
to dig deeper and deeper, yearning to see
all of the reasons you're better than me?
And when you realize that I'm so timid, so shy,
afraid of the world but not to cry,
that in ways I'm as helpless as a ship lost at sea
What, oh what shall you then think of me?
But I mustn't fret too much, for I do know
that if you pry far enough, some good must show.
I really can't wait for your smile as you see
how much I love life and enjoy being me.
You'll see that there's hope, my dreams will come true!
Nothing can stop me, not even you.
I have talent and determination, I'm not afraid.
I am an invincible lion... I feel so brave.
Look! Look! I love this so,
see all these hidden treasures I have to show?
But I'll keep my face straight and save my smile,
for you'll move on to the next part of my mind in such a short while.
How precious, how sweet, shall the moment be
when you realize that you're a lot like me.
you discover that I have feelings, and emotions too
you realize how often they've been crushed by you.
A picture of disbelief, you can't look me in the eye
You stand, speechless, as you begin to cry.
A soft whisper... you didn't know you made me feel so bad.
You look so alone, so pitiful, so sad,
For suddenly you've been exposed to how wrong you've been
to judge from appearance and ignore what's within.
A sincere promise that you're going to change,
and never be able to look at anyone the same.
These words are like an old man... so tired... yet true.
It's what's on the inside that counts
And makes you...
you...
