Ping Chuen's love of singing dates back to
her primary school days. However, it was not until she joined the Temasek Junior College
Choir that she became aware that singing well did not come naturally - it required
technique. She learnt much as a chorister and student conductor, and was fortunate to be
leading the choir when it clinched the First Prize in the youth section of the 1992
Cantata Competition, organised by the Singapore Youth Choir.
It was the piano that first got Ping Chuen started
on her quest for musical knowledge and skill. She was in the Music Education Programme at
Tanjong Katong Girls' School where she attained the ABRSM Grade 8 qualification in
Pianoforte and Theory of Music. Subsequently, she studied music at 'A' level in Temasek
Junior College. She is now receiving voice lessons from a private tutor.
Currently, Ping Chuen performs with the Singapore
Youth Choir. She has obtained her Honours degree at the National University of Singapore,
majoring in English Language. Any free time is spent watching movies and eating.
