I got tired of downloading one program to look at my graphics files, one program to view MPEG video files, one program to make thumbnails of my graphics, one program to play MIDI music, etc, etc... So I decided to make Ringo's Desktop helper to do all those things and added lots of cool features to boot.

Ringo's Desktop Helper is an all-in-one utility for Windows 95 or NT 4.0 that lets you play music, sound, videos, as well as view, edit, and save different types of graphics, and much, much more in an intuitive, easy to use environment. MIDI music files; WAV and MP3 audio; AVI, QT movie, and MPEG video; as well as jpg, gif, wmf, cur, ico, and bmp image files are all supported. With Ringo's Desktop Helper you can:

View, resize, edit, save, and make thumbnails of your graphics files. Supports JPEG (.jpg), GIF (.gif), Windows BITMAPS (.bmp), Windows Meta files (.wmf), cursors (.cur), and Windows icons (.ico).
Play music and audio files. Supports Wave audio (.wav), MIDI music files (.mid), and MPEG layer 3 files (.mp3).
Play Video and movie files. Supports all Active Movie filetypes: AVI video (.avi), MPEG video (.mpg), and Quick Time Movie (.mov).
Play CD audio
Speed up and slow down video and wave audio on the fly (Cool for the kids or for old videos that run too fast on your new computer)
Call your Windows volume controls instantly from the program with the click of a button.
Start your Windows screen saver from each interface.

The Desktop Helper will help you view your pictures with ease. Just click on the file to get a preview, then double-click to veiw. You can resize it, open in your default editor, save it, even set it as your Windows Wallpaper (It doesn't even have to be a bitmap image!), all with the click of a button.

You can easily make thumbnails of all your images for quick reference, or to help you organize your image archives. Adding and removing files from the thumbnails is easy with The Desktop Helper's controls: there are no menus, just persistant buttons and a file list that are always on the screen so you're always in control.

To install, you will need to unzip the file 'deskhelp.zip' into a temporary directory (Your unzip program must support long filenames!). Then run the program 'setup.exe' and follow the directions. To run the program, just run deskhelp.exe, or click the listing in your Start-->Programs menu. Once you've run the program, you can delete all the files in the temporary directory. Enjoy!

Note to version 1.0 users:

If you already have version 1.0: Download this file which contains an updated executable file. All you need to do is replace the old file "Desktop Helper.exe" with the one in the zipped file. There is no need to reinstall the new drivers, so this will save you a bunch of download time.

Hey, I didn't make this program because someone told me to. I created this program to handle all the files I create and play with every day. Here you can download a bunch of samples... This file contains lots of midi files, wav files, multimedia videos, and graphics. All the midi and graphics are original creations by Ringo (Jim Ringelspaugh). Check it out and feel free to use any of the MIDI or graphics in your own webpages or applications! (Only the .mid, .jpg, .gif, and .bmp files; the rest aren't mine to give out!) Samples of all things sight and sound...
