What it takes

Being a community leader takes time, hard work, patience, and understanding. But it also brings a lot of satisfaction, friendships, and opportunity. Please read the following disclaimer before submitting your application.

Children under 13 are not permitted to apply. The personal information you will be providing through the accompanying form is being sent to and collected by a volunteer, a community leader, and NOT an employee of Yahoo or GeoCities. This information is being collected solely for the purpose of evaluating your application to become a community leader, and determining whether you should be accepted as a Vienna community leader. As part of the evaluation process, your information is likely to be reviewed by other Vienna community leaders, and may be kept on file by the Vienna community leaders for an indeterminate period of time.

Community Leader Application Form:

(Any errors or problems with this form can be reported to cl_kaulana@yahoo.com)

Your GeoCities member name:

Your real name:

What name would you like to be known as to the Vienna community?

Your email address:

Your home page address:

A short bio, 180 characters or less. Write it as if you were describing yourself to someone else (i.e., in third person):

The essay: Why do you want to be a community leader? Give us some background info about yourself, like leadership experience, past online roles, educational background, technical background, etc. The essay can be about 500 words (2500 characters). Please mention items that will give us enough information to make an informed decision on your application. (Yes, grammar and spelling count, but only for those whose native language is English!)

On average, how much time per day are you able to spend on CL duties?

The next question is a real-life test question. Don't worry if you can't answer it completely, just do the best you can with the resources you can find. If you are stuck, explain to "Joe" what you will do to help him. Remember, as a community leader, you would have access to the knowledge of the other CLs, but for now, please use only your own resources.

Please write an answer to the following as if you were writing an email to "Joe": Joe Homesteader is having trouble removing the old index.html page (which was generated by GeoCities when he moved in) and emails you for help. He also wishes to implement a counter and guestbook, but does not know where to start. What are you going to write him in your reply?

The following questions will help us evaluate your application, but your answer to the essay questions above count more. We're sure that if you become a community leader you will learn about the following!

If you can help with any helper applications, which ones are you familiar with? (i.e. FTP, plugins, HTML editors, viewers, etc.)

If there is anything you can help with that we haven't thought of, please list:

Once you submit your application below, you receive an acknowledgement of receipt within one week. At that point, the current Vienna community leaders will begin reviewing your application. You will be given the results in two weeks or less. If you do not receive word in that time, please email Liaison Robert. In the meantime, please make yourself familiar with the Vienna Neighborhood Resource Pages. Thank you for your application!
