Welcome to The Slaton Cemetery |

Here is the tombstone slab for JOHN SLATON. I tried to look inside from the crack on the left and could see a brick-lined space with no casket or body. But I couldn't see very well. I understand that other cemeteries in the area, including Daniel Pratt's, have been disturbed as well. |

Another view. In the upper left corner is NANCY SLATON's tombstone which is in two pieces, courtesy of a vine that took a fancy to it and is now welded to the center of the stone. In the lower right corner is a part of the brick wall which surrounds the cemetery. |

Carved on the top of Nancy's broken tombstone is a woman's hand holding a flower. This is no doubt in honor of Nancy's repute as an expert gardener. Eerily, though, it now looks as though Nancy's hand reaches up from her grave. Almost as a reminder to us descendants to weed her cemetery.... |
