Created by the same pair of satyr and mortal dreamer who also made Central Park, this is Belle Isle.
Once a beautiful place where mortals went to dream and fae came to inspire them, now it lies crumbling and nearly dead. When it was first created, the glamour that poured out was sickeningly sweet. The statues, fountains, lakes and landscaping reflected that. During the summer it was green and shady with bursts of bright flower everywhere. In the winter, it glittered with snow and ice. Snowmen and snowangels always graced the slopes and the lakes were full of ice skaters.
Not long before the great ravaging, the park began to fall. I think it's because those who sucked the city dry, began the process with the park. Just a way to test the waters. In any case, the park darkened. Nightmarish chimera crept into the park on the coattails of the drug users and thugs. The city, for whatever reason, let the park go, no longer funding it's upkeep and soon it was almost completely lost to mundane criminals and the dreamings darker side.
Recently, the park has come under a new mortal project to restore it. The unseelie fae who live there as well as the mundane drug sniffers are opposed to the idea, naturally. They've already had enough trouble contending with the arrival of a ghille dhu and a few inanimates pulled from the woodwork as winter begins to take hold.
The benches are still there. The wandering paths, the statues, the fountains and the little hidden bits where frisky teenagers used to make out, only now they just shoot heroine. I guess this irishman (scottsman? Where are the ghille dhu from? I've never met one personally) is doing a fine job of cleaning up the place, but I don't think he can do it alone.
One thing i was hesitant to mention.... Something is on the island. It wasn't a mistake or luck of the draw that it was so glamorous in the begining. It also isn't that surprising that it has survived, though degenerated. What that something is exactly, no one seems to have found out. It's thought to be -under- the island, or hidden in one of the lakes, but whether it's treasure or the home of a Lost One, no one is certain. Sometimes you can just feel the force of some powerful glamour eminating from there.... It's why the unseelie who stay on the island don't want to give it up. Would you?
