Curricular Notes | Arménio de Melo | Nuno Vasconcelos |
Founded by Arménio de Melo - Portuguese Guitar and Nuno Vasconcelos - Classical Guitar, Cordatum performs original and transcriptions of Classical and Portuguese traditional music, written for both instruments. This group includes in its repertory several Sonatas by António da Silva Leite and Carlos Seixas as well the Carlos Seixas' Concerto in A.
First CD, Released in February 99
The Arrangement, by Cordatum, of seven works of Portuguese Music, put in evidence the virtuosity of both instruments and players, and create a very elaborated music, related with "Fado" - Portuguese Urban Song, and with the our European Classical Tradition.
One of repertorie's propose is to make an Homage to some of the best players of Portuguese Guitar.
The first CD (Strauss Evolution - St 3205), is entirely dedicated to this of repertory

Arménio de Melo was born in 1953.
By the age of thirteen he began learning to play the Portuguese Guitar with Manuel dos Santos.
The first public performances occurred in popular shows in the so called houses of Fado in Oporto and Lisbon, in which he accompanied several singers.
He became a professional guitar player in 1967 and in 1978 joint the group of guitars of the teacher Martinho d' Assunção.
Performing with singers of Fado and soloing Arménio de Melo went to all countries in Europe, Canada, the United States of America, Brazil, Angola, South Africa, Venezuela, Cape Verde, the Republic of Ivory Coast, Senegal, Hong-Kong, Macao and India.
In several musical projects he recorded regularly both with singers of Fado and performing his own guitar solos.
He has got the Complementary Studies Degree in " Academia de Amadores de Música" in Lisbon and nowadays he studies Musical Sciences in " Universidade Nova de Lisboa".
He teaches Portuguese Guitar in Loures Conservatory.
NUNO VASCONCELOS |
Nuno Vasconcelos was born in 1965.
The first guitar studies were made with Prof. Mário Rui Carreira.
In "Academia de Amadores de Música" he studied Harmony with composer Fernando Lopes Graça and got the Complementary Studies Degree in Guitar in 1992 with Prof. Paulo Valente Pereira.
He also studied in "Instituto Gregoriano de Lisboa" and got made the Degree Composition from "Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa" (Superior College of Music).
He attended to several composition courses in Europe and had the opportunity to work with composers such as Emmanuel Nunes, Krysztof Penderecki, Marco Stroppa, Magnus Lindberg, Tom Jonhson and Louis Andriessen.
He founded with other composers the "Portuguese Composer's Association"
He played classical guitar in several solo performances, with the following duets: "Bissonância" (Classical Guitar), "Vocis..." (Recorder and Classical Guitar) and "Adagietto" (Violin and Classical Guitar) and in several Chamber Music formations.
He teached Classical Guitar and Composition in several schools in the Lisbon area and nowadays he teaches Classical Guitar, Composition and Chamber Music in "Escola de Música Leal da Câmara "(Rio de Mouro - Sintra.
