Message from the Music Consultant /
Conductor of ISB
It is a proud moment for me to write a message in this programme for the first concert of the IPOH SYMPHONIC BAND.
Big wind orchestras in Malaysia, such as a marching band or a symphonic band, are connected to educational institutes. However, in certain countries private companies support the organization of a band.
In my native country Holland, where the wind is one of the last commodities which can be consumed free of charge hence all that windmills and wind instrument players wind orchestras are partly sponsored as a community service.
The ISB is a community band organized by volunteers. In order to attract more interested and dedicated players to join the band we strive to accumulate our own instruments, just as a school band does. With this plan, which will take years to fulfill, the band will expand its repertoire. It will be more efficient and consequently have less rehearsal.
I have to mention that we have received great help from certain schools, in particular The Ave Maria Secondary School and many individuals who have rendered their warm support and generosity. Without them our initiative would remain only words.
I sincerely hope that the ISB will become a true community band in which music lovers, drawn from all strata of life, will find a place to refine their talents.
Dear Ipoh City and Kinta Valley, I congratulate you with the birth of your own community band, The IPOH SYMPHONIC BAND.
Thank you
Joost Christiaan Flach
