At the Scottish Championships recently held in Motherwell ( 28th February), the band put in a very convincing performance of the test piece "Blitz" by Derek Bourgeois. Under the stick of Roy Newsome the band were placed fifth on the day. Feel free to read our crit sheet!

On Saturday 13th March the band held their annual Slow Melody Contest. The night was a great success, mostly due to our guest adjudicator and soloist Patrick Sheridan. Twenty of our senior players entered the contest. The results were:

1st Derrick Kirkwood who played "Misty"

2nd Sandy McAughtrie who played "Rusalkas Song To the Moon"

3rd Lyndsay Niven who played "The Lark In The Clear Air"

4th Stephen Reid who played "Softly As I Leave you"

After the contest the band played a concert featuring five solos by Patrick. I can truthfully say that i have never heard playing like it! He was incredible. So much so that we could hardly play for listening. We thank Patrick for taking time out to come to our contest and wish him all the luck for his impending European tour. A top class man!

Saturday the 17th of April is the Carnegie Contest in Dunfermline. The band drew their third choice of test piece " Of Men And Mountains". So if you want come a long for a laugh sorry,a listen, feel free. We'll see you in the pub afterwards!

Well we've been and gone and done it!And i think we were happy to get off the stage alive! Only 6 bands turned up to the Championship section of the Carnegie contest in Dunfermline on Saturday but it was a great day none the less. The results were as follows:

1) Whitburn Band

2)NewtonGrange Band

3)Cowdenbeath Band

4)Dalmellington Band

Saturday the 5th of June is the West Of Scotland Contest. This year it is being held in Troon. While our band will not be entering, the majority of us will still be there..in the vicinity of the bar area....If you want to catch up with us you can meet us in the Taj after the results!

Good news for the band...We have been awarded a grant which will allow us to carry out a feasibility study on our band hall. Plans are being made up for our new "palace".In the mean time the band have been warned not to stamp their feet too hard in time to the music!
