March head line: Spring is coming here!
43rd Sapporo Toastmasters meeting
10 March, 1999 (Wed.)

Kaderu 2.7 6F Josei Plaza

Report of the 43rd meeting;

Opening thought: by TM Komata

She told that she's keeping the Japanese traditional culture for celebrating
the season's festivals such as "Setsubun" or "Hinamatsuri".
She gave a question, "Why Doll's festival: the festival for women is not a national
holiday while the Tango-no-Sekkyu: the festival for men is a national holiday?"
Cooking for special day is a pleasure of life, so she's already started preparing
for the next season's festival: Ohigan.

Today's word: by TM Ando

In the workshop, member has to corporate. (We have a Debate Workshop on May.)
So, "irresponsibility" and "irresponsible" are the Today's words.

Prepared Speech Session:
TM Konishi gave an exciting speech; "Let's start something new in spring!".
Every year when the spring comes, she feels like starting something new.
As she mentioned she is a curious person, she'll start learning "keyboard orchestra".
Everyone plays a keyboard instead of real instruments: someone's keyboard sounds like
violin, other's sounds like trumpet, ..etc. A symphony of member's keyboards.
She'll take part in the lesson once or twice a month. Good luck for her improvements!

Current Issue Session: "Transplantaion from Brain death Body"
We had a big news last week. The transplantation from brain death body was done in
Kochi-Univ. hospital. The transplantation was a success. But her family grieved her death
because that process was opened to the public: Japanese mass-media was excited suddenly.
Therefore many Japanese began to think about it.

Questions discussed were;
1). Do you want to get a donor card ?
2). When your lovely family lay unconscious, can you give her body for recipient ?
3). Do you agree to the transplantation from brain death body ?
4). What's the problem about transplantation from brain death in Japan? What should
we do in the next case ?

TM Konishi has donor cards for the marrow bank and cornea. TM Nishimori agreed to
the idea but she said she couldn't imagine if her body will be separated to pieces.
TM Shiina pointed out that organ transplants is an undeveloped, barbaric techniques,
however saving the lives of so many people. We should consider the side effects which are
 against the immune system.
From doctor's point if view, we should do our best to save lives, but recipient family's
point of view, we don't know whether the organ transplants is the best way or not.
In Japan, organ's demand and supply are not balanced now. We could find a better way
 in the near future.
