My full name is Denise Chin-Hua Chow. I was born in Syracuse, NY on January 24, 1982 and lived in Stony Brook, NY for eleven years until we moved to Colorado Springs, CO five years ago. My parents are from both China, but I've never even visited there before. I have a brother who's a year and a half younger named Eric.

Right now, I'm a freshman at Cornell University's college of engineering studying computer science. I'm living in Founders Hall in west campus...it's a pretty cool dorm cuz it's gothic architecture...plus...I can see Libe slope, which is really pretty...but not too fun to walk up a couple times a day! I love it here! The campus is so pretty...especially during the fall with all the colors of the leaves...fall's my favorite season. :)

I have been playing the violin since I was nine years old and I've been a member of several orchestras. This summer, we took a tour to central and eastern Europe, visiting Germany, Austria, Hungary, Poland, and Czech Republic. It was incredible playing halls like the Mozarteum and St. Catherine's Cathedral. I enjoy a wide range of composers, but my favorites are Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven. Now, in college, I haven't really had much of a chance to play the violin with all the work from school, but I try to pick it up every now and then. But i really miss playing in an orchestra!

I love art...especially classical and impressionist paintings. I've gone to the Metropolitan Musuem of Art in New York City so many times because there's just so much to see...and I never have enough time to see it all at once. But I would really like to go to the Louvre in Paris. I guess the reason I appreciate it so much is because it takes so much talent and dedication and patience to accomplish. Plus, the art itself conveys a sense of beauty or history...sometimes even both. Some of my favorite painters are Claude Monet, Pierre Renoir, Jacques Louis David, and Sandro Botticelli. I hope one day I can visit France and Italy and see the cathedrals or chapels (Sistine chapel) and the musuems that house the famous paintings and sculptures.

I really like Chinese art and history. Since I was born, my parents have spoken to me in Cantonese and Mandarin, so I'm pretty fluent in Chinese. But, I need to work on recognizing more of those characters so I can read the newspaper. Anyway...I think the Chinese culture is pretty cool since we've had such a long history. I really like the art...especially paintings because it reflects a lot on nature and gives a sense of peace and tranquility.

Some of my other passtimes include reading and listening to music. I love just sitting in my room by myself and listening to all different kinds of music like classical, or pop, or Chinese songs, and just thinking. I also really enjoy reading classics like Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre. I guess I'm a sucker of old romances! Decorating my room is another fun thing I like to do. I have postcards of places I've been to all along my ceiling. On the walls, I have Impressionist and Chinese prints, among other cool things like Chinese calligraphy and those Chinese tassels.
