Mid-South Concert Band
The Mid-South Concert Band is an Associate
Member of Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga and performs at various civic
functions and events throughout the year. Organized in 1989, the band is
an all-volunteer organization consisting of approximately 50 adult
instrumentalists. The band members are teachers, housewives, doctors, travel
agents, students, retirees, truck drivers, engineers and other professionals,
all sharing a common interest in rehearsing and performing a wide variety of
music together. The common
thread running through all of our stories is that we had a great time playing
in the band in high school and maybe college, and
really regretted that there was not some way to continue the fellowship and
satisfaction that comes from performing music in an ensemble.
It is truly a
community band, with members hailing from Ooltewah,
south to Rossville,
Mr. Jim Souders,
Musical Director of the Mid-South Music Association, is retired after 30 years as
director of the highly acclaimed Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe High School
Band. In addition to directing the Mid-South Concert Band, Souders
continues to judge instrumental contests throughout the Southeast, and directs
tours of musical all-star groups to
The music consists of both traditional band
literature and contemporary arrangements.
