The 1996 Royal Alliance has chosen music from the motion picture "Apollo 13" as the repertoire for their field show. The show is entitled "Dark Side of the Moon" and takes you on a journey from the Earth to the moon and back, with a few twists and turns along the way. The opener sets a serene tone as the band and guard take us through the countdown and launch of the mission. Bells and whistles go off as the band, featuring the percussion section, transitions into "Master Alarm". A malfunction has occurred and the ship is losing oxygen, "Houston, we have a problem..." A powerless and freezing ship orbits around the moon, depicted by the band with soft chords and a distant trumpet solo. As the ship clears the moon, a lot of will and a little luck will return it safely to Earth. The Royal Alliance builds to a high point as the ship re-enters, then there is nothing but silence, radio contact is lost. Finally, a voice comes over the radio, Apollo 13 has made it safely back to Earth. Applause breaks out as the band closes the show with a strong push, then breaks into chords that softly die into a final trumpet soloist.
